Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe in containers and place in a cold frame or sow in a prepared bed. Seeds may require some stratification.


Botanic information

Leaf: The flattened linear leaves may be slightly curved and up to 15 mm (? in) wide and lightly keeled on both sides. They have 2-white somatic bands on the under side and the apex is mucronate. The forward pointing leaves are arranged densely along the reddish branchlets and are appressed on the upper surface.

Flower: The monoecious flowers are pollinated by wind. The staminate (male) pollen conesare catkin-like and the green-purplish, woody pistillate (female) cones are upright at first, and then bend down becoming pendent and appear during spring.

Fruit: The ovoid to cylindrical purplish brown cones are up to 40 mm (1? in) wide and the scales are obovate to oblong up to 20 mm (µ in) long by 12 mm (½ in)wide and each contains 2-wind seeds.
