Propagation
Lift and divide the clump during late summer and replant immediately into a prepared bed. Remove offsets as required.
Plants bulbs up to 50 mm (2in) deep and 100 mm (4in) apart during early autumn. Leave bulbs undisturbed and divide only when they become congested.
Sow fresh seeds during autumn and flowers appear within four years.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green fleshy textured linear to narrow lanceolate leaves are up to 450 mm (18 in) long by 7 mm (¥ in) to 16 mm (? in) wide and have an acute apex. There are 3-6 basal leaves that appear from each bulb during early spring and die off during summer.
Flower: The dark blue nodding campanulate flowers are up to 20 mm (µ in) long with 2-linear bracts at the base. They have a short pedicle and 6- tepals that are strongly recurved at the apex and contain 3-stamens. There are 5 to 32 flowers arranged in a one sided pyramidal raceme that is held above the foliage on a slender scape that is up to 500 mm (20 in) tall and appear during early spring.
Fruit: The small capsule contains many viable seeds with endosperm but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
