Propagation
Sow fresh seed in situ during early spring. Seeds germinate readily if kept moist.
Note:
Care should be taken as the orange sap may cause skin blisters.
Botanic information
Leaf: The basal imparipinnate leaves are arranged in a rosette and the stem leaves are alternate with a petiole up 100 mm (4 in) long. They are both similar with 10-obovate leaflets with 5-9 lobes and a slightly larger terminal leaflet. The upper surface is light to bluish green and the underside is glaucous.
Flower: The crateriform flowers have 2-sepals and 4-notched-lobed obovate bright yellow petals with numerous exserted yellow stamens and a short pedestal. They are arranged densely in a loose terminal or axillary pedunculate umbel that is held high above the foliage on a pubescent green leafy scape. They appear from a late spring to early summer and may continue until autumn.
Fruit: The erect cylindrical capsule has 2-valves and dehisces from the base expelling numerous pitted black seeds that are disbursed by ants. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
