Botanic information
Leaf: The slightly glaucous dark green sessile leaves are spathulate to obovate with red tinged serrated margins that are flat or undulating. The apex is obtuse and the texture is thick and fleshy.
Flower: The funnelform flowers have 8-10 petals that vary in colour from white with a red tinge to pinkish-orange striped or solid orange to yellow.
The flowers are arranged in a compact panicle that is held above the foliage on a slender scape that is up to 300 mm (1ft) tall and multiple stems are produced during the flowering period from each plant. They appear from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The small capsule opens from top and contains numerous glossy dark seeds with shallow warts. The tiny seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
