Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe in containers and place in a cold frame. Germination normally occurs during spring. Prick out when larger to handle and pot on for one season.

Division of the rhizome for beardless species during spring, when the new growth begins.

Note:
All parts of the plant if ingested will cause severe stomach upset.

Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green long linear leaves are up to 10mm (? in) wide and are tinged red towards the base and have a long accumulate apex.

Flower: The flattish crateriform flowers have a perianth tube that is up to 10mm (? in)long with lavender blue, yellow, white or pink lanceolate segments (petals) with darker veins. The oblanceolate to obovate falls (sepals) are up to 65 mm (2½) long and the pedicle is up to 38mm (1½ in) long. There are 1 to 2 flowers arranged on a stem that is held above the foliage and appears from mid-spring to midsummer.

Fruit: The small 3 to 6 angular leathery capsule contains numerous seeds that are compressed and pitted. They are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
