Botanic information
Leaf: The soft leathery textured ovate leaves are coarsely serrated with acute apex and have a cordate base. The slender petiole is long and under cold conditions the plant is herbaceous.

Flower: The funnelform flowers have 5-triangular green sepals and 5-ovate widely separated lilac blue petals, 2-upper and 3-below with slender spurs and darker markings in the eye. They are held above the foliage on a slender greenish scape and appear during summer.

Fruit: The small dehiscent papery capsule splits open with 3-boat-shaped valves and containing numerous small nut-like seeds that have a fleshy endosperm that is oily. They are commonly disbursed by ants. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
