Propagation
Division of the clump or rosettes during spring.

Sow fresh seed during autumn in containers and a place in an open frame. Prick out one large enough to handle and a pot on during spring.

Botanic information
Leaf: The thick leathery textured dark glossy green leaves have an obtuse apex and a short petiole. They are arranged densely at the base of the plant forming small rosettes.

Flower: The bisexual sessile tubulate flowers have 5-calyx lobes and a 2-lipped corolla with the upper lip divided into linear segments. They have 4-inserted stamens and superior ovary.

The flowers are arranged in a dense terminal umbel-like flower-head that is up to 30 mm (1? in) wide and accompanied by small bracts. They are held high above the foliage on a slender green scape and appear during early summer.

Fruit: The tiny nutlet is enclosed in persistent calyx and the small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
