Sow fresh seed from autumn to spring in pots and in cold climates place in a cold frame.

Soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during spring and semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer.

Division of the clump during autumn.


Botanic information
Leaf: The small leaves spathulate to obovate with an entire to dentate-lobed margin and an acute apex. The upper surface is covered in stellate pubescence and the leaves have a short pubescent petiole and appear alternately in rosette-like arrangement.

Flower: The small salverform flowers have 4-pointed brownish sepals up to 10 mm (? in) long with a short pedestal and 4-spreading obovate reddish-purple to violet petals with a darker veins and a yellowish throat. They are arranged in a small raceme that appears just above the foliage during spring.

Fruit: The small inflated siliqua capsule contains seeds in 2- rows per chamber. The surface is densely covered in stellate tomentose with a persistent style that is up to 8 mm (? in) long. The small seeds are viable of the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
