Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during autumn and place in a cold frame until germination occurs, during mid to late winter. Prick out and pot up when large enough to handle. Stored seeds require stratification for 90 days at -1.6ºC (32 to 36°F).
Botanic information
Leaf: The silvery green leaves are long lanceolate to narrow obovate up to 38 mm (1½ in) wide. The apex is obtuse to acute with undulating margins and a short petiole.
Flower: The Crateriform (saucer-shaped) flowers have 5-sepals and 5- white petals with a central cluster of red tipped stamens and a short pedestal that is covered in tomentum. The flowers are arranged densely in a corymb that appears before the foliage during early spring.
Fruit: The small globose green pome has a hard texture but a palatable flavour when ripe. They appear in a small cluster during early autumn and persist on the tree.
