Propagation
Stratify fresh seeds for 40 days at 5º C (41ºF) then sow in spring and maintain a temperature of 12º to 15º C. (55º to 59º F).

Take hardwood cuttings during winter then placed in sand or peat and plant out during spring in a prepared bed.

Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green pinnate leaves have 5-7 or 9 elliptical to obovate almost sessile leaflets that are up to 45mm (1µ in) long by 25mm (1 in) wide with a broad cuneate base and an acute to obtuse apex. The upper surface is rugose due to the concave veins and the petiole is up to 40mm (1? in) long with some prickles on the underside and the stipules are attached.

Flower: The fragrant violet-red cyathiform single, semi-double or double flowers have 5-leaf-like sepals and 5-obovate petals with a central cluster of yellow stamens. They appear solitary on a bristly pedicle that is up to 25mm (1 in) long or in a small cluster from summer to early autumn.

Fruit: The small orange to red pome is commonly called 'hips' and looks like a cherry tomato with persistent sepals. The seeds areviable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively in order to maintain true to type.
