Propagation
Stratify fresh seeds for 2 to 3 months at 5º C (41ºF) then sow in spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).

Seeds may be sown directly into the ground or in containers.
Greenwood cuttings taken during early summer and dipped into hormone powder, then placed in a well-drained media.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are oblong to lanceolate with a long acuminate apex and a short petiole. The margins are finely serrated and during autumn the leaves turn reddish before falling.

Flower: The small crateriform flowers have a slender green pedestal up to 25 mm (1 in) long with a blunt sepals and 5-spreading obovate white petals. There are 12-30 arranged densely in a nodding raceme that it is up to 150 mm (6 in) long,and appears with foliage from late spring to early summer.

Fruit: The small cherry-like drupe is initially red maturing to purplish black and contain numerous tiny seeds. The sour tasting fruit is only palatable to birds and is disbursed by them. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
