Sow fresh seed during autumn in a prepared bed.
Stratify fresh seeds for 2 months during winter and sow in pots, then place in a cold frame to germinate.
Soft tip cuttings of non-flowering shoots during early summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green sessile scale-like ovate leaves are crowded and overlapping along the branchlets. The apex is acute and the mid-rib is prominently keeled. Juvenile foliage is not commonly seen.
Flower: The male strobili are up to 5 mm (? in) long with crowded spirally arranged microsporophylls and the female seed cones are oblong to globose up to 25 mm (1 in) long by 20 mm (µ in)in diameter, with 14-18 spirally arranged scales each containing 3-6 ovules. They appear during spring.
Fruit: The woody cone has pointed flat woody scales that contain up to 6- seeds that mature in 6-12 months. The ovate to oblong seeds have 2-narrow wings and are disbursed by wind. The small seeds of viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
