Propagation
Stratify seeds for 2 to 3 months during winter in peat at a temperature of 1.1º to 5º C. (34º to 41º F). Sow seeds in pots then place them in a cold frame to germinate.

Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a site as the roots can damage pipes or lift concrete and late frosts can damage a new growth.

Botanic information
Leaf: The pungent flattened needle-like linear leaves are up to 3 mm (? in) wide and glossy dark green above and have 2-longitudinal bluish-white stomatic bands on the underside.

The apex is acute and the base has a sucker-like pad that gives the effect of a chain-like appearance running along the reddish brown branchlets. They are arranged radially along the stems in a slightly forward direction and are slightly aromatic when crushed.
Note
The reddish buds are conical to ovoid and are lightly covered in resin.

Flower: The small reddish male catkin-like strobili appears on the underside of the branches in the leaf axils, releasing pollen during spring. The upright purplish-brown female cones are cylindrical appearing in the upper branches during early summer.

Fruit: The conical to ovoid reddish cones have exserted reflexed bracts and mature to brown with lighter coloured resin blisters They are up to 50 mm (2 in) wide and normally taper at both ends.
