Botanic information
Leaf: The basal leaves are spathulate to obovate with the upper margin serrated to crenate. The base is tapering to a short petiole and the sessile upper leaves are elliptical with an entire margin. There may be three prominent veins on the upper surface and the underside is dull green. All the foliage is covered densely in ash grey pubescence.

Flower: The radiate flowers have a cylindrical involucre and have 6-11 ray florets and 6-17 disk florets with a short peduncle. They are arranged in a one-sided raceme-like inflorescence that is held, high above the foliage on a slender scape that is up to 1m (3ft) long and appears from late summer to autumn. The flowers attract bees and butterflies.

Fruit: The tiny achene is angular to cylindrical with capillary bristles. The small seeds are viable but may be difficult to germinate and the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
