Propagation
Sow fresh seed and during autumn in flats and prick out when large enough to handle.
Semi-hardwood cuttings taken from the base during summer and placed in a protected environment until roots appear. Propagation of this species may be difficult.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are very variable with the species having a simple lanceolate leaf with an entire margin. The sub-species aspleniifoliushas a compound 3-5 palmate leaf with narrow lanceolate leaflets that in turn are divided into pointed lobes (fern-like). The upper surface is glossy dark green and the underside is a greyish with a petiole up to 30 mm (1? in) long.
Flower: The small bisexual campanulate flowers have 5-sepals and petals with up to 15-stamens and 2-pistils and are up to 25mm (1in) wide. They are white with a yellow centre and are arranged in a large axillary corymbose panicle that appears during spring towards the end of the branches. Spent flower heads persist on the tree for some months and may appear unattractive.
Fruit: The tiny woody follicle contains 1-4 compressed brownish seeds that are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
