Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during autumn or spring and pot up when large enough to handle before the taproot develops.

Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during summer and placed in a protected environment until roots appear.

Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery textured leaves are glossy green above and pale green on the underside and are up to 40 mm (1? in) wide. The shape varies from elliptical to oblong with sharply serrated margins and an acute apex. The reddish petiole is short and the leaves are congested alternately towards the end of the branches.

Flower: The small bisexual crateriform flowers have a hypanthium up to 3 mm (? in)wide and 5-sepals and petals up to 4 mm (? in) long. It has 10-stamens in pairs opposite the sepals and the ovary is inferior. The flowers are arranged in a large corymbose panicle that appears during summer.

Fruit: The berry-like pome is bright red when mature and has mealy pulp. It contains 3-6 compressed brown seeds that germinate readily. When the fruit is mildly cooked it removes the small amount of toxic cyanogen and is used to make jelly or can be added to porridge or pancakes. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
