Sow fresh seeds during spring in a protected environment. Pot up when large enough to handle.

Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during the growing period.


Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery textured leaves are obovate to oblong with an entire to serrate, revolute margin. The upper surface is glossy dark green and the underside is covered in whitish tomentose. The apex is obtuse and the cuneate base has a short petiole.

Flower: The small urceolate flowers have 5-fused sepals and petals that are urn-shaped with up to 10-stamens and have a superior ovary with 4-6 chambers. The flowers are arranged in a terminal raceme that is up to 150 mm (6in) long and covered in grey tomentose. They are accompanied with linear-oblong bracts and appear from spring to early summer.

Fruit: The fleshy berry-like red or black drupe contains up to 6-fused stones each containing a single seed that is viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
