Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C.

Division of the clump in autumn.
Rhizome cuttings taken during winter and placed under glass. Plant out after danger of frosts.

Botanic information
Leaf: The mid green pinnate leaves are up to 450 mm (18 in) or more long and have 5-15 ovate leaflets that are up to 90 mm (3½ in) long. They have an acuminate apex and a cordate base with a long slender petiole and spiny serrated margins. The leaflets are tinged in bronze-red when young and mature to mid green.

Flower: The nodding pink-yellow crateriform flowers are 20 mm (µ in) wide with 4-spreading elliptical petals with protruding yellow stamens and a red-tinted spurs. They have a very slender pedicle and are arranged in a open lax raceme that appears just above the foliage from mid to late spring.

Fruit: The small capsule produces tiny seeds that are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
