Propagation
Surface sow fresh seeds in flats and cover thinly and keep it moist but not wet. The seeds germinate rapidly when the temperature of 20° C (68°F) is maintained. Prick out when large enough to handle and pot on and place in a cooler environment. When planting out space at 600 mm (2 ft) intervals.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer and or division of the clump during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The pubescent leaves are lanceolate to linear up to 6 mm (¥ in) wide with an acuminate apex and a short petiole. They are slightly falcate and when crushed the leaves have a pleasant minty fragrance.
Flower: The tubular flower has a pinkish cup-shape calyx up to 4 mm (? in) long with triangular teeth. The coral pink fading to orange corolla has 2-lips with the upper being erect with 2-lobes and the lower having 3-lobes with the centre one having at crenate margin. There are numerous flowers arranged in a long terminal spike that appears from mid summer to autumn.
Fruit: The fruit consists of 4-nutlets that are accompanied by the persistent calyx. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
