Propagation
Take soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn.
Graft onto rootstock during late summer or during winter under glass.
Botanic information
Leaf: The pubescent thin textured leaves are elliptical to broadly ovate, up to 80 mm (3? in)wide with an abrupt accuminate apex. The margins are serrulate and the base is cordate with a slender yellowish petiole that is up to 70 mm (2? in) long. When young the leaves are purple tinged and mature variegated in white or pink in the upper half. This is a feature of the plant.
Flower: The male and female crateriform flowers have 5-ovate sepals and 5-obovate petals that are up to 10 mm long with yellow anthers. They appear on different plants (dioecious) and 1-3 flowers arranged in a cyme with a slender pendant pubescent pedestal and appear during early summer.
Fruit: The small ovoid glabrous fruit is pale orange when mature and contains tiny seeds up to 2 mm wide. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
