Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º to 64ºF) for 24 hours. The seeds may require scarification.
Botanic information
Leaf: The small dark green leaves are reduced to a scale when present. The plant normally photosynthesises from the stems (cladodes) and the leaves are only present during its juvenile stage or when recovering from a damage.
Flower: The bright red to pink papillionate flowers are up to 25 mm (1 in) long and are accompanied by several bracts and have a short standard petal to 20 mm (µ in). They appear on a short pendant pedestal to 5 mm (? in) long along the branches from spring to early summer and sporadically until autumn.
Fruit: The flattened greenish to brown pod is up to 60 mm (2? in) long by 10 mm (? in) wide and matures in 2-3 months, when it explodes and disbursed as the hard coated seeds widely.
