Propagation
Seeds require scarification by nicking the seed coat and soaking in water for 24 hours prior to sowing in a very well-drained media.
Take stem cuttings of non-flowering shoots during early summer and place in a well-drained media and keep moist.

Botanic information
Leaf: This plant is leafless and photosynthesises from the strap-like stems.

Flower: The scarlet-red to orange papillionate flowers are up to 50 mm (2 in) long with upturned curved keeled petals that enclose the stamens and style that are released by the pollinator. The flowers appear solitary along the stems during spring.

Fruit: The curved greenish cylindrical pod is up to 70 mm (2? in) long with a pointed apex and is slightly constricted between the seeds. The small hard coated seeds are viable but the plant can be reproduced vegetatively.
