Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe in containers and place in a protected environment or sow in a prepared bed. Seeds may require some stratification in order for uniform germination.

Botanic information
Leaf: The narrow oblong to broad elliptical leathery textured leaves are up to 150 mm (6in) wide. The upper surface is dark glossy green with bright green prominent veins and the underside is pale green. The margin is slightly undulating with an acute apex and a short petiole.

Flower: The sessile salverform to tubulate flowers have 5-spreading petals that form a star-shape pattern. They are arranged in an axillary, capitate cluster (globular head) on a short peduncle. The flowering period is long from winter ti summer or may occur periodically throughout the year in tropical regions.

Fruit: The large compound whitish to greenish yellow oblong fruit is composed of nearly separate drupes that are enclosed in succulent enlarged calyces. The edible fruits have a pungent odour when ripe that attracts bats for seed dispersal.

The seeds have an air chamber and can float on water months and in tropical climates the fruit may appear throughout the year. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
