Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring in pots and plant out when large enough to handle.
Take soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings during late spring and place in protected environment until rooting occurs.
Botanic information
Leaf: The variable sized ovate leaves are pubescent with undulating margins and a short petiole. They have a prominent pale green mid rib with lateral veins and the new growth is reddish. The apex is acuminate and the base is rounded.
Flower: The small unisexual or occasionally bisexual apetalous flowers have sepals but no petals and arranged in a terminal or axillary raceme that appears from late winter to spring.
Fruit: The globose fleshy berry is reddish to reddish black or purple and contains up to 10-pale brown seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
