Propagation
Sow seed when ripe and place just below the soil level and maintain a warm humid environment until germination occurs. Pot up and grow on until 1 m (3 ft) tall before planting out. Seeds lose viability quickly.

Soft tip or semi hardwood cuttings taken during early summer and placed under mist until roots appear.

Botanic information
Leaf: The broad lanceolate leaves have an acute to obtuse apex and a cuneate base. The upper surface is bright glossy green and the underside is pale green with a prominent venation and the brown petiole is short.

Flower: The tubulate flowers have brownish buds that open with 5-sepals that are united and 5-corolla lobes that form a tube with a superior ovary. They are arranged in an axillary cluster towards the end of the branches and appear from late spring to early summer.

Fruit: The ovoid fleshy berry is green then maturing to red and contains a single seed. They appear around 30 days after flowering has occurred. The fruit has a slight acidic citrus taste at first becoming sweet when chewed and the small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.

Note
The fruit may be eaten raw or frozen and granularised and has slightly acidic or no taste but will change the flavours of any food you eat after it particularly sour or bitter foods. It has also been tested by patients who are undergoing chemotherapy in order to remove the metallic taste from the treatment.
It may be difficult to obtain requiring a specialist nursery.
