Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during late winter and plant out at 300 mm (1 ft) spacings.
Soft tip cuttings taken during spring and placed in a well-drained media.
Note:
This plant is regarded as aweedin many countries and grows in disturbed soils or wastelands. It is easily controlled by physical removal of small plants and the seed heads of mature plants should be collected and bagged.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green upper palmately lobed leaves have 3-5 deep lobes with the central lobe being the longest and is up to 76 mm (3in) wide. The margin is serrated and the lower leaves are commonly lobeless.
Flower: The broad funnelform flowers have 5-white, cream or yellow petals that are up to38 mm (1½ in) long and are dark red at the base. The central column consists of yellow stamens and a dark purple style. They appear singularly in the leaf axils from summer to early autumn and are short lived.
Fruit: The small pubescent capsule is enclosed in the persistent calyx. The tiny seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
