Surface so fresh seed during spring and pick out when large enough to handle.
Division of the clump during spring and replant in situ.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark glossy green flat linear leaves are up to 1.5 m (5 ft) long by 20 mm (µ in) wide. The apex is acuminate and the arching leaves droop as they mature.
Flower: There are 5-7 red-brown spikelets that are up to 4 mm (? in) long and arranged in a small cluster and have 2 -4 flowers with the lower 1-2 fertile. The 5-7 glumes are ovate-lanceolate and are acuminate to almost awned. The rusty red flowers are arranged in a branched pendant panicle that is up to 480 mm (18 in) long and is held above the foliage on a stiff scape that is up to 1 m (3 ft) tall and appear during spring. The flower heads are persisted on the plant during summer.
Fruit: The small reddish brown 3-sided nut is up to 3 mm (? in) long and almost winged. The tiny seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
