Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are elliptical to broad-ovate or oblong and the margins are entire to serrulate. The upper surface is a dark green and the underside is greyish pubescent.
Flower: The greenish male catkin has numerous whitish stamens and stands erect a long the stems. The female flower consists of silvery coloured catkins and both appear before the leaves on different trees (dioecious) from late winter to spring.
Fruit: The small capsule contains seeds that are covered in fine hair. The fruit is not commonly seen and the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
