Propagation
Division of rhizome after flowering to autumn.

Sow seed as soon as it is ripe in boxes and prick out when large enough to handle, plant out on the third leaf. Planting depth is 10 to 120mm (4ľ in).

Note
All parts of the plant if ingested will cause severe stomach upset.

Botanic information
Leaf: The grey green flat linear leaves are upright with a firm texture and taper to a long acuminate apex.

Flower: The rotate flowers have dark red-violet oblanceolate standards with gold streaks on the falls and are arranged in pairs on a tall scape that is held above the foliage and appears during summer.

Fruit: The small 3 to 6 angular leathery capsule contains numerous seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
