Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile soft textured leaves are obovate to elliptical oblong and are dark green and occasionally tinged with purple.
Flower: The tiny tubulate flowers are composed of a female flower with a single pistil and several male flowers each with a single stamen. Both are enclosed in an involucre (cyathium) surrounded by large showy bracts that are greenish-yellow. The flowers are arranged in a terminal cyme that is up to 80 mm (3? in) wide and appear from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The 3-valve capsule is an explosive schizocarp and contains numerous seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
