Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring in pots or boxes. Transplant seedlings into a prepared bed with added organic matter, space 200 mm (8in) apart.
Division of offsets during autumn and plant the bulbs up to 100m (4in) deep.
Note:
Contact with the bulbs may cause skin irritation, wear gloves when handling.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glaucous green long linear cylindrical leaves are up to 8 mm (? in) wide and clasp the stem at the base. When crushed the leaves have a pungent aroma.
Flower: The bright yellow campanulate flowers have 6-narrow pointed petals and exserted stamens with whitish anthers. There are up to 60-flowers arranged in a terminal umbel that is held above the foliage on a slender scape that is up to 600 mm (2 ft) long during early summer.
Fruit: The small loculicidal capsule contains tiny black seeds that are very viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
