Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are linear to narrow elliptical with an acute to obtuse apex with a mucronate tip. The wrinkled dark green upper surface is glabrous and the underside is covered in silvery hairs. The margins are recurved to revolute with a prominent mid-vein.
Flower: The small tubulate flowers have a pedestal up to 4 mm (? in)long and the oblong-ovoid yellow to greenish silky perianth segments that are up to 15mm (? in) in length witha protruding red pistil to 36mm (1? in) long.
The flowers are arranged in a terminal or sometimes axillary, villous umbel like cluster and are accompanied by linear bracts up to 4 mm (? in) long. The flowers appear from late winter to spring and are pollinated by birds.
Fruit: The ellipsoidal follicle is up to 5mm (? in) wide with a woody rugulose pericarp and contains a single elliptical seed to 12mm (½in) long by 2 mm wide with a short apical wing. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
