Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring in a well-drained media. The seeds require the standard peeling treatment prior to sowing.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during winter and placed in a protected environment with bottom heat.
Plant has been difficult to graft but has had some success on G. robusta and G.rosmarinifolia.
Botanic information
Leaf: The variable dark green leaves are obovate in outline up to 20 mm (µ in) wide and are flat with serrated margins or dissected (sub-pinnatisect) into 8-24 linear lobes that are up to 20 mm (µ in) long by 2 mm (2/16 in) wide. The petiole is short and the margins are revolute or recurved, enclosing the underside and the new growth is reddish.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a pedestal up to 8 mm (¥ in)long and the oblong reddish-pink perianth segments are up to 12mm (½ in) in length witha protruding yellow pistil to 37 mm (1½ in) long with a with an oblique pollen presenter. The flowers are arranged in a spreading or curved terminal raceme that is up to 20 mm (µ in) long by 40 mm (1? in) wide. The flowers appear sporadically throughout the year but normally from spring to summer and are pollinated by birds.
Fruit: The almost spherical follicle is predominantly horned or ridged and is up to 11 mm (½ in) long by 8mm (¥ in) wide with a smooth reddish-brown pericarp. It contains a flat obovoid seed to 8mm (¥ in) long by 4 mm (? in) wide with a wing at each end and the apical wing is oblique. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
