Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (nicking treatment). Seeds normally germinate within 60 days.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The blue green dissected leaves are subpinnatisect, to tripinnatisect or bipinnatisect and up to 60 mm (2? in) long and wide in outline with a short petiole. The individual narrow-linear lobes are up to 30 mm (1? in) long with a pungent apex and have revolute margins that obscure the underside that is covered in rusty coloured pubescence.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a pedestal up to 26 mm (1? in)long and the oblong bright red perianth segments are up to 20 mm (µ in) long by 4 mm (? in) wide witha protruding yellow pistil up to 35 mm (1? in) long. The flowers are arranged in an umbel-like terminal raceme that is up to 70 mm (2? in) by 80 mm (3? in) wide and is accompanied by ovate to linear bracts up to 6 mm (¥ in) long. The flowers appear from winter to early summer and are pollinated by birds.
Fruit: The oblong-ellipsoidal follicle is up to 18 mm (? in) long by 12 mm (½ in) wide with a slightly pubescent pericarp. The obovoid seeds have compressed flange-like margins and are up to 10 mm (? in) long by 5 mm (¥ in) wide and surrounded by a short wing. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
