Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile leaves are linear to narrow elliptical, up to 14 mm (? in) wide with a prominent midvein and white pubescent upper surface. It has an obtuse to mucronate or acuminate apex
Flower: The small tubulate flowers have a pedestal that is up to 5 mm (¥ in)long and has scarlet pubescent perianth segments up to 15mm (? in) long and a protruding blue style to 10mm (? in) long.
The flowers are arranged in a sessile umbel-like terminal or axillary raceme up to 20mm (µin) wide and are accompanied by narrow triangular bracts up to 4 mm (? in) long. The flowers may appear from late winter to early spring or sporadically throughout the year in warm regions. Bird pollinated.
Fruit: The ovoid follicle is up to 6mm (¥ in) wide with a reddish-brown pubescent pericarp and contains a single elliptical seed to 6mm (¥ in) long with strongly revolute margins. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
The young fruit is bright red and matures to brown.
