Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The variably shaped leaves are dissected into flat linear lobes that may be divided again (bipinnatifid) with an acuminate, obtuse to mucronate apex that may be pungent. It has a short petiole and revolute margins that may enclose the lower surface of the leaf that may be pubescent or glabrous.
Flower: The small tubulate flowers have a dark pink pedestal up to 8 mm (? in)long and the cylindrical pale pink perianth segments are up to 2mmin length witha protruding pink style to 6mm (¥in) long.
The flowers are arranged in an a one-sided terminal villous raceme up to 50mm (2 in) long and are accompanied by ovate bracts up to 1 mm long. The flowers appear from late spring to early summer in warm regions and are pollinated by insects.
Fruit: The obovoid reddish follicle is up to 6mm (¥ in) wide with a smooth glabrous pericarp and contains a single obovoid seed to 7mm (¥ in) long that is flanged along the margins. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
