Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green sessile linear to oblong-lanceolate leaves are up to 30 mm (1? in) long by 4 mm (? in) wide with an acute to obtuse mucronate apex. The new growth is rust-coloured and the entire margins are recurved with the upper surface becoming glaborous with age.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a pedestal up to 8 mm (? in)long and the oblong-ovoid greyish-pink hairy perianth segments are up to 5 mm (? in) in length witha protruding pistil to 12 mm (½ in) long. The outer surface has pale brown hairs and the inner surface is pink and hairy. The flowers are arranged in an a terminal umbel-like cluster that is up to 15 mm (? in) long by 20 mm (µ in) wide and are accompanied by persistent linear-spathulate bracts up to 3 mm (? in) long. The flowers appear from winter to summer and are pollinated by bees.
Fruit: The ovoid follicle is up to 20 mm (µ in) wide by 8 mm (? in) wide with a slightly pubescent pericarp. The flat ovoid seeds have recurved margins with a swelling at the apex and are up to 15 mm (? in) long by 3 mm (? in) wide with a short apical wing. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
