Propagation
Sow seeds when ripe in containers and place in an open frame until germination occurs.
Division of the clump during spring, carefully as the roots dislike disturbance. Recovery is slow.
Culture
This perennial responds to regular mulching with leaf mould.
Botanic information
Leaf: The bilobed leaves are divided into two kidney-shaped (reniform) lobes that are up to 127 mm (5 in) wide with an entire margin that is reddish.
The grey green upper leaf surface has quilted appearance and commonly suffused in a burgundy colour towards the margins and the underside is glaucous, light green. The leaves are held erect on a purplish petiole that is up to 300 mm (1 ft) long.
Flower: The cyathiform flowers have 12-perianth segments with 6-stamens and a prominent green ovoid ovary. It is held above the foliage on slender scape that is up to 350 mm (14 in) tall and appears from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The leathery capsule contains and numerous seeds but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
