Propagation
Stratify fresh seeds for 2 to 3 months at 5º C (41ºF) then sow in spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).
Seeds may be sown directly into the ground or in containers.
Greenwood cuttings taken during early summer and dipped into hormone powder, then placed in a well-drained media.
Note:
This shrub rarely becomes a small tree and tolerates a regular prune to keep it bushy.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are ovate to obovate with grey pubescent on the underside and are bronze red when young maturing to dark green and turning orange red during autumn. The apex is long acuminate and the margins are doubly serrated.
Flower: The small crateriform flowers have reddish sepals and white or pink, deeply notched petals. They are solitary or arranged in clusters of 2-3 and appear before the foliage in early spring.
Fruit: The purplish black cherry-like drupe contains a single seed that is viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
