Propagation
Sow fresh seeds when ripe in containers and place in a cold frame. Germination normally occurs during spring.
Division of the rhizome for beardless species during spring, when the new growth begins.

Note:
All parts of the plant if ingested will cause severe stomach upset.


Botanic information
Leaf: The long bright green broad linear leaves taper to an acuminate apex and are arranged in a fan-like pattern at the base.

Flower: The crateriform flowers have lavender blue petals. The falls are white-striped towards the base and have a central yellow stripe. The stemless flowers have a perianth tube that is up to 100 mm (4 in) long and they appear solitary amongst the foliage from late winter to early spring.

Fruit: The small 3 to 6 angular leathery capsule contains numerous seeds thatare viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
