Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe in containers and place in a cold frame or sow in a prepared bed. Seeds may require some stratification.
Note:
The roots on this tree are shallow and spreading and require ample room around pathways or driveways otherwise damage may result.
Botanic information
Leaf: The 4-sided bluish-green incurved linear leaves have a blunt to mucronate apex and broad stomatic bands on the upper surface. They are arranged forward pointing around the reddish-brown pubescent branchlets. The ovoid winter buds are up to 3mm (?in) long with an acute apex.
Flower: The purple female strobili is up to 25mm (1in) long and are upright at first then bend down becoming pendent. The reddish rounded male pollen cones appear towards the shoot tips and both appear profusely during lathe spring.
Fruit: The ovoid cones are green maturing to grey-brown and have rounded scales with slightly serrated margins. Each scale contains 2-dark brown seeds that are up to 3mm (?in) long with a pale brown oblique wing to 7mm (¥in) long. The cones persist on the tree for many years.
