Propagation
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn, up to 50mm (2in) long and apply bottom heat.
Mound layering during spring.
General pruning information
Tolerates a light prune to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Do not prune into old wood as it will not regenerate.
Botanic information
Leaf: The small glabrous linear leaves are glossy green on the upper surface and dull green beneath. The apex is acute and the margins are strongly recurved. They are arranged densely along the stem in a whorl of three.
Flower: The nodding urceolate flowers have 4-petals and 8-stamens with a short reddish pedestal. They are arranged in a terminal raceme or umbel that is up to 50 mm (2 in) long and the colour changing from purple to blue. They appear from early to late summer.
Fruit: The tiny fruit is a four-celled dehiscent capsule that contains numerous small seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
