Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early autumn or in spring and maintain a temperature of 5ºC to 10ºC (41ºF to 50ºF). The seeds germinate in 6 to 8 weeks and prick out at 12 weeks. The plant will flower the following year.

Corms may be carried over from year to year though lose vigour. Planting depth to 50mm (2in) and prefer to be left undisturbed forming large clumps.


Botanic information
Leaf: The large leathery textured leaves are broad-cordate with scalloped margins that are sharply toothed. The apex is acute and the thick reddish petiole is up to 150mm (6in). The upper surface has a marbled appearance with reddish veins and the underside is dark red.

Flower: The solitary rotate flowers have a short tube with 5-calyx lobes and the 5- oblong petals that are reflexed and twisted with a darker base. The flowers are held erect above the foliage on a slender pedicle that is up to 150mm (6in) tall. The flowering period is in spring but may extend into summer in cooler climates.

Fruit: The small 5-valved capsule contains numerous sticky seeds.
