Propagation
Sow fresh seed when ripe or during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).
Soft tip cuttings taken during early spring and placed in a warm humid environment.
Botanic information
Leaf: The soft leathery texture mud green leaves have a cordate base with a slender petiole up to 20 mm (µ in) long and an acuminate apex.
Flower: The tubular petal-less flower consists of a large corolla-like calyx up to 600 mm (2 ft) long that is lobes at the base. It is purple veins and is mottled in maroon. The 'S' shaped calyx is inflated at the base and attached by a long pedestal. The flowering period is during midsummer but may vary in tropical zones.
Fruit: The ribbed green pod matures brown and contains numerous seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
