Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º to 64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Botanic information
Leaf: The stiff leathery ovate leaves have prominent reticulate venation and a mucronate apex. The petiole is very short and the underside is dull green-brown.
Flower: The axillary yellow papillionate flowers are solitary or arranged in a small cluster of two with brown imbricate bracts attached to the 12mm (½in) long peduncle. The brown calyx has 5-pubescent lobes and the yellow corolla has 2-broad upper lobes marked in red and 2-narrow lower lobes. They appear from late winter to spring.
Fruit: The dark flat oblong legume splits along the lower joint rolling back to open and contains several seeds that have a long viability period.
