Propagation
Surface sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). Prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glabrous dark green linear leaves have a membranous ligule that may be lobed and are arranged alternately along the stem or appear from the base.
Flower: The spikelets have 1-floret and are arranged in a dense spike-like panicle that is up to 200mm (7µin) long and are concealed by the 40mm (1?in) long silky awns that are commonly tinged in purple. They appear from spring to autumn.
Fruit: The small caryopsis (seeds) are viable but may be difficult to germinate.
