Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green pinnate fronds have linear segments that are arranged upwards at 30º to the rachis forming a shallow "V'-shape and the apex are notched. The segments are pale green on the underside. The petiole is up to 300mm (1ft) long.

Flower: The tiny cyathiform flowers are arranged in groups of three with 2-male and 1-female or alternatively the inflorescence is male or female only. The inflorescence appears from the upper leaf axil and then progressively down the trunk. The trunk dies once fruiting is finished.
The flowering period is from late spring to early summer but can vary in tropical regions and they may appear throughout the year.

Note
The male cyathiform flowers have 3-imbricate sepals and 3-larger petals and contain numerous stamens. The female flowers have 3-sepals and petals that are joined at the base and may contain sterile stamens. The ovary is 2 to 3 celled with 1-ovule and the stigma has 3-lobes.

Fruit: The dark purple globular drupe contains 1 to 3 embedded seeds. The seeds have a hard coat and the endosperm that is not ruminate. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively. Take care when handling as the fruit contains caustic calcium crystals
