Botanic information
Leaf: The arching pinnate fronds have a dark brown fleshy petiole and is composed of drooping linear (wedge-shape) leaflets with a toothed apex. The dark green fronds are arranged in a single plane and are silvery-green underneath.

Note
The frond is upright at first becoming gracefully arching with age. It has an elongated cylindrical petiole that thickens at the base and clasps the stem and the mid-rib underside is covered in obvious brown scales.

Flower: The inflorescence arises from the frond base on a peduncle with leathery bracts and grows to around 1m (3ft) tall. It terminates with several lateral yellow male spikes that surround a purplish female globular head. After the pollen is released the spikes die off.
The flowering period is during late winter but can vary in tropical regions and they may appear throughout the year.

Note
The male flowers have 3-sepals and 3-simular petals and contain 3-united stamens. The female flowers have 3-sepals and petals and has 3-seperated carpels.
