Propagation
Plant fresh seeds in a deep container to 150mm (6in) deep during spring, keep moist and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27ºC. (66º to 81ºF).

Sporadic germination may take up to 5 months. Avoid allowing the seed to dry out before sowing.


Botanic information
Leaf: The grey green fan-shaped costapalmate fronds have numerous narrow-lanceolate segments that reach half way to the petiole and are folded at the base. The underside is bluish and the long slender petiole is armed at the base with sharp teeth.

Flower: The long inflorescence appears from the frond bases on a peduncle that becomes an elongated mid-rib and divides into several pendant side branches which in turn, are divided into slender rachillae. In bud the inflorescence is inclosed in 2-tubular bracts.

The bisexual cyathiform flowers have 3-united sepals and 3-larger ovate petals that are valvate at the apex. There are 6-stamens that are united at the base and the flowers have 3-cells with a separate 1-celled segment and is united at the top to form a single style with a tiny stigma. They are arranged on the rachillae singularly or in clusters and may have a short pedicle. They appear from late winter to early spring.

Fruit: The small dark drupe is arranged in clusters.
