Botanic information
Leaf: The variable shaped leaves tend to be curved and pendant with 5-6 main longitudinal veins. They are narrow-ovate to narrow-elliptical ranging from 8mm (?in) to 40mm (1?in) wide. The apex is long acuminate and the petiole is up to 12mm (½in) long.
Flower: The small cyathiform flowers have exserted whitish stamens with yellow anthers and are arranged sparsely along a terminal or axillary spike. They appear pendently towards the end of the branches from autumn to late winter but the flowering period can vary in tropical regions and they may appear throughout the year.
Note
Generally Melaleucaspecies have small flowers that consist of a calyx tube that is lobed at the top. The small oval petals are up to 3mm (?in) long and normally insignificant. These are arranged in a cup-shape that is filled with numerous bundles of long filaments that fan out with a thick central style that is slightly longer.
Fruit: The sessile cup-shaped capsules are brown when ripe and contain numerous fine seed. They are clustered closely together in a spike and are persistent on the tree.
